- Find a familiar place where you and your child are comfortable and calm.
- Make it easy for your child to understand, by explaining their strengths and what may be tricky for them.
- Use visual aids, such as books and videos. Stories also can help your child feel less alone and more understood.
Autism is a spectrum, so every autistic child is unique and has their own specific needs. They might be independent or they might need your help everyday. It is also important to look after your own well-being to provide the best support for your child.

Understanding Your Child's Behaviour

Stimming
- Stimming is a repetitive behaviour and is usually harmless.
Common behaviors such as: rocking. jumping, spinning, repeating words, phrases, finger-flicking, staring at lights, or spinning objects.

Meltdowns
- It is a complete loss of control caused by being totally overwhelmed.

Distressed Behaviour
- They might hurt themselves or someone else when distressed. This behaviour includes anger, shouting, hurting themselves, hitting, biting, or aggression.
