FAQs
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that affects communication, behaviour, and social interactions. Each individual with autism is unique, with their own strengths and challenges.
Autism is diagnosed through a comprehensive assessment process that includes observations, interviews, and standardised tests conducted by qualified professionals.
Autism can be diagnosed as early as 18 months, but many individuals receive a diagnosis later in life. Early intervention is crucial for the best outcomes.
At Autism Detect, being fully virtual, we can see patients aged 9 and above.
Autism Detect offers a range of support services, including therapy, educational support, and resources for parents and caregivers.
Contact us to schedule an initial consultation. We will guide you through the assessment process and answer any questions you may have.
At Autism Detect, all autism assessments are completed by qualified clinicians with specialist training in autism diagnosis, following NICE guidelines.
Autism can be diagnosed by:
- Consultant Psychiatrists – specialising in child, adolescent, or adult mental health.
- Clinical or Counselling Psychologists – registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Specialist Paediatricians – particularly those experienced in developmental and neurodiverse presentations.
- Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) – bringing together expertise from psychology, psychiatry, speech and language therapy, mental health nursing, and occupational therapy. These professionals work collaboratively, each contributing their clinical perspective to ensure a comprehensive and accurate assessment.
Our assessments typically include a detailed developmental history, structured observation, and information from family or other key sources. This approach ensures every diagnosis is thorough, evidence-based, and person-centred.
- Initial Screening Consultation: £50.
- Full Autism Assessment: £1,650, with the £50 screening fee deducted if you proceed.
At Autism Detect, our full autism assessment follows a structured, evidence-based process that meets NICE guidelines — all conducted remotely for your convenience.

- The ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) – completed via video call with a trained specialist using a remote-adapted, interactive format.
- Once both assessments are completed and scored, you will have a clinical review appointment with a specialist to discuss the findings.
- A comprehensive diagnostic report is issued within 30 days, summarising results, conclusions, and tailored recommendations.

The ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition) is a gold-standard assessment tool used to observe and evaluate social communication, interaction, and behaviour linked to autism.
At Autism Detect, the ADOS-2 is delivered remotely by a trained specialist using a structured, interactive format that includes conversation, play-based, or problem-solving activities — depending on age and developmental level.
It provides key insights into how an individual communicates and interacts in real time, forming an essential part of the overall diagnostic process.
If autism is not diagnosed, the clinician will provide recommendations for further evaluations or support to address other potential challenges.
